Welcome to the Jewish Institute of Pitigliano’s website

Pitigliano is a beautiful Renaissance-era Tuscan hill town, almost on the border with Lazio, the region of Rome. Its Medici aqueduct and medieval castle, housing bishop’s residence, museums, archives and libraries, give character to the town, perching on the top of tufa-rock cliffs. What distinguishes it from other Tuscan hill towns is the presence over four hundred years of a Jewish community that flourished and maintained good relations with local Christians. Recently, the municipality has rebuilt the synagogue and restored other Jewish buildings that have become a Jewish museum. Come and visit with us. . . .
